Off Season or Tourist Season? When to Go to the Maldives
Based on social media messaging we’ve had for the second half of 2019, the question of when to go to the Maldives was common enough, but not on the top ranks. However, this is something we consider important, because despite there being peak season, Maldives Resorts know that our luxury travel destinations usually have more than enough guests to operate all year long.
Basically, the tropical archipelago made up of far-flung atolls only has two seasons in the weather sense: dry and wet. The dry season, from November to March is directly related to its being peak tourist season on the islands. While the wet season, which lasts from April to October, is considered off season. But there are things that make the islands in wet season attractive.
Why Off Season in the Maldives Works for a Certain Traveler
This is one of the most asked question for certain people who are planning on a Maldives vacation. These are the water sports enthusiasts — basically surfers, scuba divers or those who love to snorkel. Off season, which as mentioned is the same as wet season in the islands, is when the waters of the Indian Ocean around the archipelago is great for these activities.
Imagine a gale force storm coming on to the islands while scuba diving, you are safe enough underwater. And you usually swim towards a sheltered spot when surfacing, usually at your resort. Of course, the majority of travelers to the islands are not water sports practitioners, but they may also be interested in these.
During peak season, the surface compensates with brilliant emerald waters that is as calm as a mirror. And it will be friendlier overall for those just learning to dive, snorkel or surf.
